Thanks to enough Delta miles and a husband skiing for MLK weekend, I had an excuse to run to Los Angeles for the four days to visit friends and play tourist.
We lived in LA for five years as newlyweds, but there is nothing better than visiting the land of sun and stars.
My daughter Emily was still home from college, so I packed her up and dragged her with me.
The trip officially started at the Urth Caffe in Santa Monica. Â Urth was in a tiny storefront in Manhattan Beach in 1991 when we lived there. Â Emily spent many hours there as a baby, so I had to bring her back!
Sites we visited included Sony Studios and the Getty Center.
Why did I never do a Studio Tour when we lived here? Â So fun!
 Â
Next stop, The Grill for lunch in Beverly Hills and some shopping.
The food in LA is fabulous. Â Some of our favorites: Â Love & Salt in Manhattan Beach, Tasting Kitchen in Venice, Gjelina in Venice and Shutters in Santa Monica.
The Getty Center is a must see when visiting LA. Â We had two days of rain, but lucked out with the weather the day at the Getty.
A certain 22 year-old in our group with a very active metabolism, convinced us that In-N-Out burger was a mandatory stop after the Getty…
Thanks Emily. Â 500,000 steps to burn this off!
We ended our weekend with a long walk on the Manhattan Beach strand, a place I walked many miles with Emily in a stroller. Â We saw wonderful friends who still live there. Â They have an amazing company called Cosmetix West that manufactures beauty and fragrance products. Â Hmmm, The Wry Home fragrance?
 Â
Thank you LA for a wonderful weekend.

lucky Emily!!! what fun – and half the reason to travel is to eat the local food, so In-N-Out is mandatory in LA. xx
It was good!!!!
For the record, Rob Reilly continues to maintain that In n Out burgers are the absolute best burgers on the planet. Sounds like a great trip!!
I agree with Rob!
