A New York Minute

by Liz Dowling

How much can you jam into a NYC visit in a day and a half?

A lot!

Eli’s Table on 3rd for a quick arrival dinner.

An early start at the Met the next morning to see the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit. Because of a parade on 5th Avenue, we had a crazy walking route to get up there! We cooled our heels in the Impressionist section while we were on the virtual line to get into the exhibit.

Go see this exhibit before it leaves on September 2nd.

Always drawn to the color red.

Ethereal dresses.

The waist on these two! Probably 15″ around…. 😐

Mermaids in the sea.

Trying to be artsy.

A quick stop to the Met rooftop because it was really HOT.

We had brunch near the museum because the city was insane with the parade and general weekend activity. We dined at the classic Lexington Candy Shop on 83rd and Lex. Founded in 1925, it is still going strong. A vintage NY fave in my parent’s old neighborhood.

Downtown to the West Village. The garage shown here is converting into 7 apartments, starting price $57.5 million per unit. No problem! The garage was build in the 1930’s and will retain the original structure – so the words GREENWICH VILLAGE GARAGE will stay on the exterior. I do love that. The only reason I have this wealth of information is because it is right near my daughter’s apartment and the construction “noise” has started….

Jones Road for some customized  makeup. Dante for the most insane (and strong) cocktail called the “Spicy Fresca.” Ingredients: Illegal Mezcal, Tequila Blanco, Galliano, Fluffy Grapefruit, San Pellegrino Pompelmo, Agave, Smoked Jalapeño and Aleppo Salt. I’m not sure what fluffy grapefruit is, but this was DELICIOUS!

Emily was able to grab a reservation at Roscioli for dinner.

Squeezed in an early lunch at BG with my college roommate and got to see my great friend from coaching school quickly before I dashed. Thanks for making the time Alixe! Hit MANGO after lunch and ran into a Block Island friend on the way. I love New York!

Ended my stay with two glorious days in Guilford, CT with girl friends. Happy summer!

Celebrated ours son’s graduation from ICE at Roscioli 2 weeks ago. Not an easy reservation to get but well worth it once you do.
