I fell in love with vintage posters about 15 years ago. My husband and I were in Paris, walking by a small gallery on the Left Bank. In the window was a brilliant green poster with a wonderful woman in a bird hat. We walked into the gallery and out with this lady tucked under our arm. The poster is by an artist named Rene Gruau. Gruau was a renowned fashion illustrator who became one of the best known and favorite artists of the haute couture world during the 1940s and 50s. This fabulous green lady, circa 1956, was the beginning of our vintage poster collection.
My favorite poster period is the mid-1940s through the mid-1960s. Bold colors, sophisticated illustrations and whimsical characters are the trademark of this time. They are fabulous for home design and can be a reasonable alternative to other forms of artwork.
Posters ship in a heavy cardboard tube for a flat rate of $20.00. I can also offer a framing option if you would like the piece framed. If you do, please email me at [email protected]. It is a simple black frame with a pale “pigeon” gray matte, (see here) for examples. D’accord!
